There are several things one should carefully reconsider before deciding to get a dog. Life with a dog is special and exciting experience but it is important to be aware that having a dog is also a great responsibility.
Dogs were one of the first animals that were domesticated by people. Besides joy and
pleasure dogs also provide companionship and protection to their owners and recently
dogs have also become highly important assistants to handicapped individuals. Even
more dogs are also very valuable in rescuing and searching of missing people, while
police uses dogs for detecting illegal drugs. No wander people all over the world
like to say that "a dog is man's best friend".
The main reason why so many people like dogs is not their physical appearance but their behavior characteristics and social skills. Dogs are generally very loyal to their owners, are very receptive for interaction with humans and have the ability of learning of series of things through training process as well as by observation. Dogs are also renowned for having great social intelligence although dog’s intelligence greatly varies from bread to bread and from dog to dog but the extent in which a dog develops his social intelligence also greatly depends on his owner, training and from the time dog's training has started. All dogs can learn relatively quick but like in humans, the ability to learn in dogs also declines with years. For that reason it is crucial that dog training process starts as soon as possible.
