Dog Training Tips

Dog training is a long and complex process but the basic commands such as come, sit and lay down that can be easily taught by oneself. However, to make sure the dog really understands the command it needs to be regularly repeated.

Dogs like to run around free and interact with other dogs but it is highly important that dogs responds and obeys his owner's call when later believes that it necessary. Teaching the dog to obey the command come can be practiced by oneself at home. Call the dog before you give him food and use the word come. That way the dog will start to associate the command with food. The command come can be eventually also used when going for a walk. Do not criticize the dog if he does not obey immediately otherwise the dog might connect the command with disapproval.

One of the easiest things you can teach your dog on your own is the command sit. Take a special food treat and put it in front of dog's snout. Slowly move your hand up and backwards so that dog can no longer see the treat. The dog will lift his head and automatically sit. When the dogs sits say sit and give him the treat. Eventually, the dog will understand the command and the body gesture even without using the treat.

Similar to the command sit is also teaching to lay down. You can also use a treat and put it in front of dog's snout but this time move the hand to the ground and then towards you. The dog will follow the treat and automatically lay down. When he lays down say the command and give him the treat.
